Intern In Michigan, funded by grants from the New Economy Initiative, the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, and the Department of Labor, is a talent retention and attraction initiative for the state of Michigan. It does this by relying upon a unique web-based internship tool – Intern In Michigan.com, which has been in service since April 2009, and the next generation tool pending launch in Fall 2010 – and statewide partnerships with key intermediaries – career placement offices of Michigan’s public and private universities and the hundreds of chambers and business associations serving Michigan.
As a key part to developing partnerships across the state, Intern In Michigan/Classroom to Career is developing and hosting customized, branded web sites for partner organizations. These web sites serve as portals into the internship tool and database, while also providing information about the host organization - who they are, who they serve, what they do, and why they care about talent - as well as quality of place marketing resources and news feeds.
The value of these web sites to the organizations is as an additional outlet for information about what they do, an opportunity to provide a service to their clients, members, and/or stakeholders, and tangible access to a talent retention/attraction tool for which they may claim credit.
The value to IIM/C2C is a leveraged network of organizations that reach and influence nested audiences of targeted users (employers and students) where traditional marketing is limited, and existing familiarity to promote the utilization of the internship tool is strong.
The program is looking to create over 4,000 web sites that will establish a large and strategic outreach network that communicate the value of talent through internships and direct access to a unique web-based internship tool that matches talent individuals with internship opportunities and employers. Collectively this collaborative initiative will create a common marketplace where talent and employers can connect via a single system/tool/database, and enable the program to reach its capacity of 25,000 internship placements by 2014.
